Memorial day is almost here! A whole 3-day weekend full of relaxing, backyard cooking, and shenanigans. A good number of people will be celebrating the weekend with fireworks. While we want you to have a fantastic time, we want to remind you that fire, whether it's in your barbecue or in your festive explosives, can be dangerous without the proper precautions. In fact, most emergency rooms and fire departments are fully staffed and on high alert during these times. So, whether you’re planning to grill or just celebrate with fireworks, it's important to practice proper safety precautions!
A good number of people have backyard fire pit areas or general areas where they grill. This can range from a simple portable fire pit with a few dusty lawn chairs, to a neatly landscaped, custom built entertainment zone. The same area is usually used for setting off fireworks. Regardless of how yours is set up, any controlled fire comes with the need for safety precautions. Here’s a few things to keep in mind while celebrating this weekend:
Obey Your Local Laws!
The size of backyard fires and whether or not you can light fireworks are usually subject to local ordinances! Make sure you check them out before you make any plans!
Avoid Dry Grass And Foliage
A rogue spark from your fire, grill, or fireworks can cause a big problem if it comes in contact with anything combustible. Make sure the area is clear and free from debris!
Keep An Extinguisher Handy
It’s better to be safe than sorry! If things do go awry, having something to stop the fire before it does too much damage is important.
With all these safety tips in mind, please have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend! But if a fire does occur, please contact your local fire department. They’ll do their best to save as much as they can. We’ll take care of the rest and make sure it’s as good as new!
